We want, need, and depend on your donations, but we cannot accept items our customers will not buy or our operations cannot handle. The Salvation Army, Recycle Ann Arbor ReUse Center, or Habitat for Humanity may accept some items that we cannot. Thanks for understanding.

  • Appliances-Large:  stoves, washers, dryers, refrigerators over 8 cu ft, freezers, garbage disposals

  • Automotive:  auto parts, car top carriers, tires, wheels, hub caps

  • Building Materials:  bricks, blocks, doors, windows, screens, door or window glass, scrap lumber

  • Carpets:  worn or dirty

  • Chemicals:  flammable products or solvents, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers

  • Clothing:  stained or dirty (should be washed)

  • Cosmetics:  open or used products

  • Damaged or Incomplete Items

  • Electronics:  computers over 5 years old, CRT TVs, CRT monitors,
    TV-Radio-phonograph consoles,
    dot-matrix printers, fax machines,

  • Furnishings:  hardware for blinds or draperies

  • Furniture:  furniture with worn or ripped or stained upholstery, mattresses with stains, bed springs with exposed metal, 2-4 drawer legal width (14" paper) file cabinets, fireplace screens & hand irons, large entertainment centers, metal office desks, office cube furniture

  • Infant/Baby Equipment:  booster seats, car seats, cribs of any type, high chairs

  • Magazines:  all types

  • Medical Items:  medicines, opened products, prescription medical items (e.g. breathing equipment), portable toilets, crutches, walkers

  • Medicine Cabinets

  • Musical Instruments: organs, pianos

  • Paints/Solvents:  opened paint cans, alcohol, turpentine, varnish

  • Sporting Goods:  golf clubs & bags, skis, weight benches


The Kiwanis Thrift Sale is open Saturday 9:00 -12:00 am for sales to the public and Monday, Thursday, and Saturday 9:00 - 11:30 am for drop off of donations from the public, at the Kiwanis Activities Center at Washington and First Street in downtown Ann Arbor, 200 South First St, 48104, (734) 665-0450. The Sale is staffed by unpaid Kiwanis members and volunteers. The Ann Arbor Kiwanis Club Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, and donations to the Thrift Sale are tax deductible. The Thrift Sale funds a wide variety of charities and social agencies in Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County. Each year the Foundation contributes about $200,000 in cash and goods to help 25,000 people.
